The Chief Medical Officer for the United Kingdom reviewed and published guidelines back in 2019 that provided recommendation for the minimum amount of physical activity that the UK population should be undertaking each week.

The recommendations looked at different sectors of the population. For older people the recommendations are as follows:

  • Adults and older people should take part in 150 minutes (2.5 hours) each week of moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity in bouts of 10 minutes or more.
  • Muscle strengthening activity should be included twice a week.
  • Time spent being sedentary for extended periods of time should be minimised.
