Leighton Linslade Rotary have worked hard over the pandemic to provide sport sessions for people with disabilities. The Rotary had sought support from the local Town Council in a four-year agreement, but the Together Fund helped transition the sessions into one-to-one, which led to a significant development in the skills that the service users had.

A mother of a participant even highlighted how the tennis sessions provided by the Rotary had given their daughter the opportunity to leave the house for the first time in months, showing just how crucial a sport and physical activity offer has been for some families as we have moved out of lockdown.

Sadly, some sports that the Rotary did offer have not been able to come back, such as lawn bowls and archery, however they are looking at introducing sailing as a potential option for its service users and football, tennis and hockey continued to be successful. One the young girls who has been attending the tennis sessions run by the Rotary has been given an award by the Town Council for 'Young Person Overcoming Adversity' and received the award wearing her tennis sweatshirt.

The support the Rotary received from the Together Fund has been paramount in ensuring that people with disabilities in the Central Bedfordshire area has had access to a physical activity offer in the months after the easing of lockdown restrictions.
